New trailer shows off Star Citizen FPS gameplay

We haven’t covered Star Citizen enough on The Rift Arcade. That’s because we don’t have access to the beta, but that doesn’t mean we’re not looking forward to giving it a spin.

Yesterday an intriguing new video was released from PAX Australia. If you can ignore the screams and shouts from the crowd then you’re in for a treat, because it shows just how action-packed and visceral the first-person sections promise to be, echoing other shooters including Quake and Call of Duty. You can check out the trailer above, where CIG chief Chris Roberts took to the stage to demonstrate the games four-player support. We highly recommend playing the video at full-screen in 1080p quality, because there’s a lot to see.

Star Citizen is targeted for a 2016 release, but is already playable right now in the form of two modules: Area Commander and Hangar. The former gives access to the games dogfighting features, and enables players to control their own ship while blasting foes into very small floating pieces. The Hanger module lets players explore a virtual hangar to see their ships and collected items in all their 3D glory. More modules will be released over the next year, until finally, in 2016, every module will be available as an epic space exploration, trading and fighting game.
